Geert Ott
Belgium

Biography

Geert Ott — born 1972 — is a Belgian pianist whose artistic path unites rigorous training with a deeply personal interpretative voice. A laureate of the Excellentia Competition and the Competition of the Gemeentekrediet, he completed his studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, followed by advanced training in Cologne and Ghent. He has appeared as soloist with orchestras in the Benelux, France and Spain, performing major concertos by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Gershwin and Shostakovich and giving the world premiere of a piano concerto by Marcel De Jonghe.

An important source of inspiration has been his mentor Dirk Verelst — violinist, conductor and internationally experienced musician — whose artistic scope and insight have profoundly shaped his musical outlook.

For Geert Ott, music is far more than the execution of a score. Rooted in the great Romantic piano tradition, his playing favors expressive freedom, spacious phrasing and organic rubato over mere virtuoso display. His pianism is characterized by a richly differentiated and colorful tonal palette, where sound is sculpted with nuance and depth. Each performance seeks to create an authentic, living dialogue with the audience — a shared moment in which music becomes a mirror of the inner world.
